Features of Our Curriculum

 

Primary Literacy Progamme – Reading and Writing: P.1-P.3

 

The Primary Literacy Programme – Reading & Writing (PLP-R/W) is a 3-year programme designed by the Net Section of the Education Bureau. About 80 primary schools were selected to join this programme in September, 2008. Our school is very happy to implement the programme in order to enhance the learning and teaching of English. The PLP-R/W is based on the rationale that reading and writing are fundamental to learning a language. 50% of the lessons are allocated to the PLP-R/W and the other 50% are allocated to the teaching of the textbooks to consolidate the learning of grammar and the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking)

PEEGS P.4-P.5

The project mainly focuses on the reading programme for P.4-P.5. Two different sets of school-based reading curriculum were developed for P.4-P.5 local and NCS classes separately. Reading workshops and remedial reading workshops will be provided for students. Remedial Intervention Programme will also be organised for struggling readers. The reading ability of students will be assessed through reading assessment tests and exams.

Seed Project: P.6

We joined the English Language Support for Schools for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) students. The aims of the project are:
‧To enhance the professional development of English teachers working with NCS students
‧To improve literacy levels of students in reading and writing through catering to learner diversity

School-based Curriculum—English Fun Time:

Teachers introduce daily conversations, dialogues, news-related topics to students 5 minutes a day. During the morning assembly, students read aloud with teachers in order to enhance their confidence in speaking and reading.

Our Plan for the School Year:

 

* The implementation of small class teaching in all classes and the adoption of co-operative learning

* The implementation of Primary Literacy Progamme Reading /Writing (PLP-R/W) in P.1, P.2 & P.3

* Remedial Teaching to P.1–P.3 students

* Using portfolios to inform parents of students’ learning in PLP-R/W lessons

* P.4-P.5 PEEGS school-based curriculum

* P.6 NCS SEED school-based curriculum

* To launch a whole school reading programme – Reading Month

* To create i- Portfolios for P.1-P.6 students

* The introduction of Reading Buddies to promote reading

* Students’ participation in Cambridge Young Learners English Tests (Starters, Movers, Flyers)

* Students’ participation in Cambridge Key English Test (KET)

Major Concerns of year

 To deepen students’ abilities to use the self-directed learning skills and apply different tools for evaluation on self-directed learning skills.

To improve students’ assessment performance in language usage.

 To strengthen the professionalism of teachers to enhance effectiveness of teaching.
